Extractions

Extractions, or removing a tooth, usually occurs because of disease, trauma, crowding, or for orthodontic purposes. We perform extractions of baby teeth and adult teeth as needed, though we often consider extractions as a last resort. Saving a natural tooth is preferable to costly implants or dentures! Primary baby teeth play an important role. They help guide permanent teeth and help with speech, chewing, and self-confidence. If a primary tooth is must be extracted, we may recommend a space maintainer to ensure there is space for the underlying adult tooth.

Before extractions, we first numb the area, then carefully wiggle to loosen the tooth from the surrounding gums. It is painless and all your child feels is a slight pressure. Dr. Lac uses special distraction and positive reinforcement techniques to quickly and painlessly extract their tooth. It's over before they know it! After the extraction, she will go through a post-extraction regimen to follow at home to help your child's gums heal faster.
